... Why focus on those in need in Honduras?
Child labour has also become a serious problem in this Central American country.
Honduras is the second poorest country in Central America, and one of the poorest in the Western Hemisphere.
With adoption policies changing, adoptions have decreased while the number of orphans has increased, thereby straining the limited resources.

Global Partners in Life is thankful to have an opportunity to serve another orphanage around the world! We are now partnering with The Refuge Orphanage near San Pedro Sula, Honduras. The orphanage was founded by a husband-and-wife team of Roger and Maria. Together they started preparing the property for children in 2005, and in 2007 they received their first orphan.
Currently, there are 32 children under the care and supervision of Roger and Maria! As you can see in this photo, they enjoy celebrating Christmas. (Sorry about the photo taken with poor lighting!) The only employee with Roger and Maria is a cook. She works from 6 AM to 6PM. I can’t imagine cooking for so many people at one time, but she does it all day every day! Here is the kitchen and dining room at the orphanage.
Roger and Maria are focused on getting to know the children and their strengths. Also, they want the children to have a wonderful education. If the children are not doing well in school, they explore other types of education for the children like trade schools. Whatever can be done to help the children to have an education/skill and become independent is great with Roger and Maria.
From our trip to the orphanage, funds were provided for food, septic tank repairs, and chickens. Yes, that is correct, chickens. Roger has a HUGE chicken coup behind the orphanage with several chickens. He feels if he had additional chickens, he could have a positive cash flow for the orphanage. If you have been to the grocery store lately, you must think Roger is a genius!
