WITH SO MANY ORPHANS IN THE WORLD

... Why focus on the abandoned children in Myanmar?

Poverty is an enormous issue in Myanmar. Many children are given up to orphanage care for financial reasons.

Armed conflict and the military coup of 2021 have left many children in danger and orphaned.

Myanmar is a one of the worst nations for human trafficking in the world. Orphans are at a high risk for trafficking.

WE NEED TO STEP IN AND PROVIDE FOR THOSE THAT...

Can neither provide for, nor represent themselves!

OUR STORY

Myanmar is the second largest country in Southeast Asia, with a population of 54 million people. Sadly, its economy is one of the least developed in the world and is suffering the effects of extended isolation and stagnation. More than 13 million people (26% of the population) live below the poverty line. Over 3 million people spend a high percentage of their limited income on food with a restricted diet that does not meet all of their consumption needs. There has also been a civil war happening in the country since 1948, which has left many people in need and many children orphaned.

The orphanage supported by Global Partners in Life, Hope for Myanmar Children, was started in 2010 by a woman named Grace and her husband Run. It is located near Yangon, a large coastal city with a population of 5.3 million people. Most of the children at the orphanage come from Northern Myanmar, where most of the fighting is taking place in the civil war. This war is the longest civil war in the history of mankind. Hope for Myanmar Children provides food, education, and health care for the orphans and staff.

On February 1, 2021, a military coup occurred in Myanmar. In a country that already had 2.8 million people suffering from hunger, this coup has added an additional 3.4 million people to that number. Fuel prices rose 50% across the country and food prices for staples like rice have risen 13% since January 2021. The number of children in need is growing dramatically in the country and we are grateful to have a way to help Grace and Run.

The Orphanage

The Hope for Myanmar Children was started in 2010.  Grace and her husband named Run have three biological children that live at the orphanage also.  Most of the children have come from the northern part of the country where most of the fighting is taking place due to the longest civil war in the history of mankind.  The orphanage is located near Yangon, a large coastal city.

With so many children living in the orphanage, there is a constant and wide range of needs to be met. We are thankful that Global Partners In Life has been able to fund numerous ways to help. Find out how you can help support these on-going needs.

ABOUT THE ORPHANAGE

Challenges

& UNIQUE CIRCUMSTANCES

As many as 26 children have lived at the special needs orphanage at one time.

The orphanage is a 2-story building, with a kitchen.

The government requires a separate dorm for boys and girls to be officially registered – we are hoping to help Hope for Myanmar Children complete this build.

The orphanage was started in 2010 by Grace and her husband, Run.

It costs $30 per child each month for food.

Myanmar’s economy is one of the least developed in the world.

To get the orphans who are physically able to attend school an education so they can become independent.

Getting medical eye care attention for children and helping them obtain glasses.

LEARN HOW YOU CAN

Make a Difference

There are a few unique circumstances that come into play when we provide for the children. The first one is the exchange rate. With the exchange rate as it is between the USA and Myanmar, our money goes further in Myanmar. That means when we want to purchase a pair of eyeglasses, we can buy it for less in Myanmar than we can in America.

Another circumstance is the airlines and their rules. You have to keep your luggage under a certain size and weight or pay a penalty, and it is difficult to travel with large items like crutches and wheelchairs.

In summary, it is more cost effective, and easier, to travel with cash for purchasing the items we need once we arrive in the countries where we serve. Please consider making a financial contribution to Global Partners in Life. You can have a huge impact on the lives of several truly needy children and widows.
