IN INDIA, NEARLY 265 MILLION PEOPLE LIVE ON LESS THAN $1.90 PER DAY
...many widows and orphans have even less. Many communities in India still shun widows and they are abandoned by their families due to superstition. The are left feeling completely isolated and alone.
The statistic is even higher for orphans or the children of widows. Those that do attend school often drop out and begin to work out of necessity.
Orphaned children are greatly in need of care and protection, being among the most susceptible to poverty, child labour, and child trafficking.
DON'T LET THESE WIDOWS AND CHILDREN
be invisible anymore.India's Orphans
Our founder, Beau Sides, wanted to increase the impact of Global Partners in Life, so he researched the problems of orphans globally and learned that some of the worst conditions for orphans were in India. Keeping true to our desire to help orphans and widows, Beau was very interested in serving in India. Fortunately, Beau had a good friend with a contact there. On his first trip over, Beau immediately saw the needs of the people incapable of providing for themselves, and he wanted to help!
India's Widows
When Global Partners in Life arrived in India, we immediately learned of catastrophic events in the lives of two groups of widows which required significant and immediate attention. One group of widows lives in the slums of Bhubaneswar, and the other group is comprised of elderly widows in an extremely rural area. All of them have health concerns. Would you like to meet them?
LEARN HOW YOU CAN
Make a DifferenceGlobal Partners in Life is building a facility to provide housing for 20 of the unhealthy elderly rural widows living in the Gajapati District of eastern India. This facility will have a kitchen where 3 meals a day will be prepared for the widows, a dining area so the ladies can enjoy their meals together, a meeting area where counseling can be provided, rooms that can house 4 or 5 widows, bathrooms, and clean running water. The upstairs will have space for storage and room for the workers. The land for this facility has already been purchased, but $48,000 is needed to build this facility for these poor, unhealthy, and hopeless widows. Please consider helping Global Partners in Life raise the required funding for these ladies!
The boys from Shalom Cottage helped clear the trees, and then stood to mark off where this new facility will be located.
The community is working together to build the new home for the elderly widows.
